Abstract: One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is to end poverty in every way, all around the world. Its main purpose is to ensure that people have access to the resources and opportunities which are necessary to live with dignity, promoting social and economic equality. This goal recognizes that poverty is not only measured by the lack of income, but it also depends by the lack of access to education, health, housing, drinking water, and a decent job. Studies made about Mexico's economic development, clearly show that the country has experienced regionally unbalanced development, and the trend points to a worsening of these imbalances in the future. Therefore, given this scenario, the federal government, State governments, and especially Municipal governments, together with educational institutions and other major institutions that are important for society, must assume a proactive leadership position to fight social problems in each region. As a first step, it is important to begin with a clear analysis of the poverty situation in each state, examining the various variables that influence it. In the state of Campeche, the municipality of Campeche and being the state capital is the most economically competitive, following the ranking the second municipality is Carmen. This is not surprising given that the economic activity generated by the oil industry in the area. On the other hand, the State of Quintana Roo, with the founding of the city of Cancún in 1970, became Mexico's main tourist destination. This led to the development of the tourist corridor known as the Riviera Maya, which is currently one of the country's leading tourist centers. Cities like Playa del Carmen and Tulum have experienced significant development and are now major players in the tourism industry. This document submits the results of the research project “Determination of Poverty in the Municipalities of the States of Campeche and Quintana Roo in Mexico, Towards the fulfillment of SDG 1 'No Poverty' within the 2030 Agenda. 2020 Index.” This study proposes an analysis of various variables that influence poverty measurement, using the Social Lag Index (SLI) designed by the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL in Spanish) to determine the existing inequalities in each municipality of the state of Campeche and, in turn, in each municipality of the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
