Abstract: Spillways are walls or openings, where a fluid flows over them and are used intensively to measure and/or control the flow in flow of a hydraulic channel, such as dams. The present study aimed to compare what are the discharge coefficients found in the theoretical literature with those measured in practice, in a reduced hydraulic channel. For data collection it was necessary to perform measurements in the laboratory of Heat Transfer and Mass/Hydraulics, from UTFPR- Campus Apucarana-PR, with spillways of rectangular and triangular shape of thin wall, where they present a thinner thickness in relation to their length, placed perpendicular to the flow of the flow. Thus forming an elevation of the water level upstream until the fluid flows over the spillways. Therefore, seis measurements were made in the hydrodynamic channel, finding a subtle difference between the value found in practice and existing in the literature. Proving the formulations of Thomson and Francis, for the triangular and rectangular spillway, respectively.
