Abstract: Water infiltration into the soil is a fundamental process for water resource management, irrigation, soil conservation, and maintenance of water and aquifer flows, and the process of water infiltration into the soil can be affected by several factors, such as soil compaction and irrigation. This study aimed to evaluate water infiltration into the soil using the concentric ring infiltrometer method in a Yellow Latosol on the campus of the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA), in Capanema-PA. The experiment was conducted by installing two metal rings, with measurements of the infiltrated water layer over time. The results indicated that, although the Yellow Latosol has a clayey texture, its infiltration rate was classified as very high, a behavior attributed to the good physical structure of the soil and the presence of vegetation cover, which reduces surface sealing and increases effective porosity. An inverse relationship was observed between infiltration rate and accumulated infiltration: the rate decreases over time, while the accumulated volume of water continues to increase until reaching stability, known as Basic Infiltration Rate (BIR). These data reinforce the importance of considering texture, structure, organic matter and vegetation cover in the analysis of soil water dynamics, in addition to contributing to sustainable management practices, irrigation, water resource conservation, soil health, reducing erosion and surface runoff.
