Abstract: This chapter presents the results of a study that aimed to apply dispatch in hydrothermal systems through mathematical programming using the GAMS software. The methodology adopted used the collection of relevant data, including information on the representation of hydroelectric and thermoelectric plants, characteristics of the hydroelectric reservoir, hydrological data, and electrical energy demand. In this context, a case study was carried out using the mathematical model of the hydrothermal system, with decision variables, technical and operational restrictions, and the objective function. Using the GAMS software, the dispatch was implemented and resolved for two different operational situations: seeking to minimize operational costs and maximize the hydroelectric reservoir level. The results obtained were different for the two situations, demonstrating the importance of using optimization mechanisms to assist in decision-making to solve real problems involving engineering.
