Abstract: Hydroponics is a soil-less cultivation technique in which plants receive minerals through a nutrient solution. This technique can be automated using a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), an electronic device designed to configure and program the desired functions, to save farmer time, facilitate monitoring and avoid failures in the replacement of nutrients in the formula. This project was developed by high school students and teachers from the electrotechnical technical course at the Federal Institute of São Paulo - Tupã campus in the Integrating Project curricular component. In addition to the training and technical development of the students, this work aimed to build an automated prototype for a hydroponic system, aiming of simplifying the planting of Lactuca sativa (lettuce) for small producers located in the municipality of Tupã. The prototype developed has been proposed as an automated model of a hydroponic crop that provides a basis for testing the operation of the system created, consisting of timing controls, pumping and nutrient dosing, to determine the best growing conditions for the plants. In addition, the project has high expectations that the automatic circuit will be successful in terms of liquid flow and the supply of vital substances to the plant.
