DE ENGENHEIRO A PROFESSOR DE ENGENHARIA: DAS HABILIDADES PROFISSIONAIS AO DESENVOLVIMENTO DE COMPETÊNCIAS EM ENSINO PARA A APRENDIZAGEM
No atual contexto educacional brasileiro, ainda preso a velhas crenças, a atuação docente em universidades é repleta de desafios operacionais. Essa prática pede mudanças rumo à construção do conhecimento baseada em ciência, tanto por parte dos gestores e docentes quanto dos alunos. O ponto de partida para isso é o envolvimento de todos os atores educacionais em reflexões e discussões sobre novas práticas de ensino. Como parte do elenco de qualidades do professor universitário, estudos contemporâneos indicam que o conhecimento técnico deve aliar-se à competência para organizar e administrar situações de aprendizagem, tais como fazer evoluir os dispositivos de ensino, envolver os alunos em seu desempenho, trabalhar em equipe, utilizar novas tecnologias em benefício da educação, enfrentar os dilemas éticos da profissão, cuidar da própria formação contínua e ter compromisso com a aprendizagem coletiva e individual. Aí encontra-se a justificativa para o principal objetivo deste trabalho, que é discutir competências para a docência em cursos de graduação em engenharia, partindo das várias concepções do saber e dos principais paradigmas do ofício de professor, para questionar os modos de pensar, agir, produzir e disseminar conhecimento. O trabalho é concluído com sugestões sobre como favorecer a qualidade de ensino na atualidade, ação que exige um tipo de prática que ultrapasse o campo da especialidade, para que sejam desenvolvidas atividades interdisciplinares, com aplicações transdisciplinares, substituindo o ensino que se limita à transmissão de conteúdos por um processo de construção do conhecimento com vistas à inovação.

Abstract:
In the Brazilian educational context, teaching at university level is full of operational challenges, often stuck in old-fashioned beliefs and values. Thus, teaching practice calls for a change in the attitude of coordinators, teachers and students, who should take scientific evidences into consideration as the foundations on knowledge building. The involvement of teachers with the institution they work for, reflections and discussions about new practices should be the starting point here. Contemporary research indicates that being competent on this field of work is to organize and manage learning situations well, design educational tools, involve students as team to work in the teaching-learning process, use new technologies for the benefit of education, address the ethical dilemmas of the teaching profession, take care of one´s own continuous training and be committed to individual and collective learning. The main objective of this paper is to point out the teaching skills concepts and paradigms that still prevail in engineering teaching, and question the ways of thinking, acting, producing and distributing knowledge. This work also discusses how to improve the quality of education to be offered to engineers-to-be, a practice that requires both multi and interdisciplinary actions and activities which should go beyond the field of specialty and develop transdisciplinary applications so that teaching, as a mere transmission of content, can be replaced by classes that are committed to knowledge building process towards innovation.
