Abstract: The present text is the result of the research entitled “Baking in artesanal ceramic”, with emphasis on the relationship between the traditional and the modern, developed from 2019 to 2022, at the Federal University of Pará, in articulation with ceramists of the ceramic pole Icoaraci, district of Belém do Pará City. The research project aimed to study the baking processes of artisanal and utilitarian ceramic, in traditional “caieira” ovens, with digital temperature control and thermocouple use, establishing if the relationship between the empirical process and the measurement. The research was developed in two important Pottery of Icoaraci, the Spanish Pottery that this year completed 120 years of existence, and the Pottery of the Mr. Rosemiro Pinheiro Pereira, with 60 years of existence. Both are references in ceramic production in Belém, acting on both utilitarian production and ceramics with marajoara inspiration. From the theoretical point of view regarding this research topic, it was endorsed in Jorge Chitti (1997), Maria Helena Canotilho (2003) and Nino Caruso (2003). Thus, this text presents the partial results of the research, in which the intersection between the traditional and the modern, or, between the knowledge of tradition and technology, provides extremely positive results in the process of baking the ceramic.
