COVID-19 E OS ANIMAIS DE ESTIMAÇÃO: IMPACTOS DO ISOLAMENTO DOMICILIAR DEVIDO À PANDEMIA SOBRE O PESO E MANEJO ALIMENTAR DE ANIMAIS MANTIDOS COMO “PET” NO BRASIL
A pandemia da SARS-CoV-2 levou a população mundial ao isolamento domiciliar. Com origem na China, o Covid-19 se distribuiu mundialmente de forma veloz. Existem relatos do vírus infectando cães, gatos e ferrets, todavia sem evidência de capacidade de transmissão do patógeno aos humanos. Devido ao isolamento muitas pessoas relataram que aumentaram de peso, e isso não foi diferente com os animais. Com o objetivo de comprovar tal fato, foi realizada uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório, através de um formulário on-line, obtendo 551 respostas oriundas de 23 estados brasileiros. Os participantes foram questionados a respeito da rotina alimentar e de exercícios dos animais antes e após o isolamento, observação ou não do aumento de peso e/ou escore corporal dos animais mantidos como pets. Ademais, os dados foram analisados de forma quali-quantitativa, onde foi concluído que, cerca de 30% dos animais, apresentaram sobrepeso após o isolamento domiciliar, podendo relacionar como consequência do maior fornecimento de alimento por parte dos tutores (periodicidade e quantidade) e menor periodicidade nas atividades como passeios e brincadeiras realizadas.

Abstract:
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has led the world population to home isolation. Originating in China, the Covid-19 quickly spread worldwide. There are reports of the virus infecting dogs, cats and ferrets, however with no evidence of the pathogen's ability to transmit to humans. Due to the isolation many people reported that they gained weight, and this was no different with animals. In order to prove this, an exploratory survey was carried out using an online form, obtaining 551 responses from 23 Brazilian states. Participants were asked about the animals' food and exercise routine before and after isolation, whether or not to observe weight gain and / or body score of animals kept as pets. Furthermore, the data were analyzed in a qualitative and quantitative way, where it was concluded that about 30% of the animals were overweight after home isolation, which may be related as a consequence of the greater supply of food by the tutors (periodicity and quantity) and less periodicity in activities such as walks and play.
