CONHECIMENTO DOS ACADÊMICOS DE ODONTOLOGIA SOBRE A HANSENÍASE EM UMA INSTITUIÇÃO DE ENSINO SUPERIOR BRASILEIRA
Introdução: A hanseníase é uma das doenças mais antiga na população, tendo em seu contexto histórico a disseminação rápida dos números de pessoas acometidas, motivada pelo desconhecimento quanto a doença, sendo considerada como problema de saúde pública. Objetivo: Assim, este estudo tem como objetivo, identificar o conhecimento dos acadêmicos de Odontologia de uma Instituição de Nível Superior sobre a hanseníase. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, com abordagem quantitativa. Baseada na aplicação de questionários contendo 28 perguntas. Foram usados como critérios de inclusão: discentes matriculados no curso de odontologia, amostra 107, que cursavam do quinto ao décimo período, e que decidiram participar voluntariamente da pesquisa. Resultados: O estudo identificou que 75,9% dos estudantes têm conhecimento do microrganismo causador da Hanseníase, 52,4% demonstraram desconhecimento sobre a classificação operacional, 41,2% responderam que desconhecem os tipos de hanseníase, 42,9% conhecem a duração do tratamento, 62,6% afirmaram que realizam a inspeção do paciente e 49,5% responderam corretamente sobre a transmissão da doença. Conclusão:Os resultados obtidos reafirmam a necessidade de maior comprometimento e investimento em disciplinas, estágios como forma de contribuição para novos conhecimentos e experiências agregadoras no preparo para a realidade da saúde pública.

Abstract:
Introducion: Leprosy is one of the oldest diseases in the population, having in its historical context the rapid dissemination of numbers of people affected, motivated by the lack of knowledge about the disease, being considered as a public health problem. Objective: Thus, this study aims to identify the knowledge of dental students of a Higher Level Institution about leprosy. Methodology: This is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Based on the application of questionnaires containing 28 questions. Inclusion criteria were: students enrolled in the dental course, sample 107, who attended the fifth to tenth period, and who voluntarily decided to participate in the research. Result:The study found that 75.9% of the students are aware of the leprosy-causing microorganism, 52.4% were unaware of the operational classification, 41.2% answered that they did not know the types of leprosy, 42.9% were aware of the duration of treatment. , 62.6% said they perform patient inspection and 49.5% answered correctly about the transmission of the disease. Conclusion:The results reaffirm the need for greater commitment and investment in disciplines, internships as a way of contributing to new knowledge and aggregating experiences in preparing for the reality of public health
