Abstract: Bioactive compounds are chemical substances present in foods and plants that have beneficial effects on human health. They may have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial properties, among others, and have beneficial effects on health when consumed in adequate amounts. They act to modulate biological processes, contributing to disease prevention, promoting well-being, and improving the body's physiological functions. They have gained prominence in public health for their role in promoting health, preventing chronic diseases, and contributing to sustainable practices. This study presents bioactive compounds, their classification, and their importance in health, aligned with environmental sustainability and food security. The use of these compounds in promoting public health also emphasizes the need for integrated policies and nutritional education.
