COMPETÊNCIAS E LIMITAÇÕES PARA A EDUCAÇÃO A DISTÂNCIA EM UNIVERSIDADE COMUNITÁRIA NO MEIO OESTE CATARINENSE
O presente artigo é um resultado preliminar de uma investigação sobre a prática da Educação a Distância (EaD) na Universidade Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe (UNIARP), sediada em Caçador, SC. Considerando que a EaD sofreu grande expansão no Brasil nas últimas décadas, cada vez mais instituições buscam nesse modelo de ensino e aprendizagem uma forma de melhor correspondências das exigências da sociedade atual, seja em termos de qualidade do ensino e em termos de equilíbrio financeiro. O objetivo da investigação consiste em buscar identificar as causas que levaram a uma baixa adesão dos estudantes nas atividades propostas nas disciplinas oferecidas a distância pela instituição no primeiro semestre de 2013, levando a um percentual expressivo de reprovações. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa é constituída de revisão de literatura e aplicação de questionários estruturados aos 923 estudantes matriculados em disciplinas da modalidade EaD na UNIARP no primeiro semestre de 2013. Os resultados evidenciam que os participantes dispõem de recursos como computador e internet em seus domicílios e as competências para a realização de atividades como acesso à internet, meio privilegiado para a construção de ambientes de aprendizagem a distância. Contudo, os meios empregados pela instituição na construção de suas disciplinas, tais como fóruns, são pouco acessados pelos participantes da pesquisa. Portanto, concluiu-se que a baixa adesão dos alunos nas atividades na modalidade EaD e a consequente reprovação de muitos é mais resultado da dificuldade da instituição de criar um ambiente que se adeque às necessidades dos alunos do que destes em ter competências para estudar na modalidade a distância.

Abstract:
This article is a preliminary result of an investigation into the practice of Distance Education (DE) at the University of Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe (UNIARP), based in Caçador, SC. Considering that distance education has undergone a great expansion in Brazil in the last decades, more and more institutions are seeking in this model of teaching and learning a way to better match the demands of today's society, both in terms of quality of teaching and in terms of financial balance. The objective of the investigation is to seek to identify the causes that led to a low adhesion of students in the activities proposed in the distance courses offered by the institution in the first semester of 2013, leading to a significant percentage of failures. Methodologically, the research consists of a literature review and application of structured questionnaires to the 923 students enrolled in distance learning disciplines at UNIARP in the first semester of 2013. The results show that the participants have resources such as computers and internet in their homes and competencies for carrying out activities such as internet access, a privileged means of building distance learning environments. However, the means employed by the institution in the construction of its disciplines, such as forums, are little accessed by the research participants. Therefore, it was concluded that the low adherence of students in activities in the DE mode and the consequent failure of many is more the result of the institution's difficulty in creating an environment that suits the needs of the students than of them in having skills to study in the modality. the distance.
