Abstract: The study was conducted with the objective of characterizing fish production systems and analyzing the adoption of innovations in fish farmers in the Rupa Rupa district, Huanuco-Peru. Twenty-six fish farmers were surveyed using a semi-structured survey considering socioeconomic and technical- productive variables, in addition to the recording of data on the rate and rate of adoption of innovations. The definition of the types of system was carried out by means of cluster analysis using Jaccard's distance and the Ward method. Categorical variables were analyzed using the chi-square test, while quantitative variables were analyzed using analysis of variance. Three types of fish production systems were defined. The average pond area (m²) differed among them (p<0,0001), with values of 374,89±136,44, 379.43±198,54 and 1670,5±725,44. In one of the system types, the production destination was mainly oriented for sale, while in the other two types, production was also oriented for self-consumption. The rate of adoption of innovations was different among system types (p=0,0162) with values of 0,59 ± 0,16, 0,45 ± 0,10 and 0,65 ± 0,11, with an overall average of 0,57 ± 0,15, with the highest value corresponding to the commercially oriented group, which in turn had the highest values in terms of adoption rate.
