Abstract: The main objective of the study is the characterization of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, through the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The purpose of describing socioeconomic variables is that they contribute significantly to local knowledge, informed decision making, and the promotion of sustainable development in the region. To do this, information from official databases such as INEGI, CONABIO and CENAPRED is analyzed in the QGIS program. The population variables and their distribution in each of the entities were mapped, the employed population, the employed population and economic activities, the indigenous population, the degree of social vulnerability and finally the municipal typology. In light of the information analyzed in the strip of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, it is maintained that most of the localities are eminently rural, although a third of these tend towards urban transition. Regarding the employed population, around three quarters predominate in the tertiary sector and the remainder in the secondary and primary sectors. In the Isthmus of Tehuantepec there is still an indigenous population, with a greater presence and at higher rates in the state of Oaxaca. Finally, more than half of the municipalities present medium levels of social vulnerability associated with disasters.
