O cirurgião-dentista pode participar

como consultor da saúde bucal ou prestador

de serviço a nível ambulatorial ou hospitalar,

visando garantir a integralidade da atenção

à saúde. Este estudo objetivou caracterizar a

produção científica que aborda os principais

aspectos sobre a odontologia hospitalar no

Brasil. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa, sendo

realizada uma pesquisa na Biblioteca Virtual de

Saúde, nas bases de dados MEDLINE, BBO e

LILACS, em 2018, para responder a seguinte

questão norteadora: qual a caracterização das

publicações disseminadas em periódicos on line, no âmbito da saúde, no período de 2006

a 2017 que trata sobre a odontologia hospitalar

e sua importância? Selecionou-se 23 artigos

distribuídos regionalmente da seguinte forma:

10 sudeste (43,5%), 07 sul (30,4%), 03 centrooeste (13%), 02 nordeste (8,7%) e 01 norte

(4,3%). É fato que o paciente hospitalizado,

geralmente, encontra-se debilitado e sua

terapêutica fica centrada unilateralmente na

morbidade responsável pela internação, assim

obtendo menor atenção aos cuidados de higiene

oral. Portanto, reconhece-se que a inserção do

cirurgião-dentista na equipe hospitalar possui

um impacto relevante na condição de saúde do

paciente e que a carência desses profissionais

nos hospitais precisa ser superada

Abstract:
The dentistry can participate as

an oral health consultant or service provider at

the outpatient or hospital, aiming to obtaining

the integrality of health care. The objective of

this study was to characterize the scientific

production the main aspects of hospital dentistry

in Brazil. It is an integrative review, being carried

out a research in the Virtual Health Library, in

the databases MEDLINE, BBO and LILACS, in

2017, to answer the following guiding question:

what is the characterization of the publications disseminated in online journals, in the field of health, from 2006 to 2018, which

deals with hospital dentistry and its importance?. We selected 23 articles distributed

regionally as follows: 10 southeast (43,5%), 07 south (30,4%), 03 central west (13%),

02 northeast (8,7%) and 01 north (4,3%). The hospitalized patient is usually debilitated

and their therapy is unilaterally focused on the morbidity responsible for hospitalization,

thus obtaining less attention to oral hygiene care; Therefore, it is recognized that

the insertion of the dental surgeon in the hospital team has a relevant impact on the

patient’s health condition and that the need for these professionals in hospitals needs

to be overcome
