Abstract: This article aimed to identify land use conflicts in permanent preservation areas (PPAs) in the municipality of Pancas, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The first stage involved a bibliographic survey and legislation related to the theme, in addition to defining the study area. Subsequently, a georeferenced database was structured to delineate the permanent preservation areas using data from digital elevation models and digital topographic maps. Land use and cover data were obtained from the Mapbiomas Project Platform. To delineate the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) of water resources, distance maps (buffer) based on the drainage network and vectorized springs were used. The PPAs of Hilltops were delimited based on procedures adapted for the QGIS software. The PPAs of Slope were generated from slope grids of the Digital Elevation Model. The Slope PPAs were identified as those areas with a slope equal to or greater than 45° or 100%. Pasture activity occupies the largest area (35.4%), followed by Forest Formation (25.4%) and Agriculture (25.1%). In the PPAs of slope and water resources, pastures and agriculture predominate, while the hilltop PPAs show a greater presence of rocky outcrops and forest formations. The preservation areas represent 11% of the municipality.
