Abstract:
The nutritional labeling of packaged foods in the absence of the customer is mandatory by law and essential as a communication link between the industrialized product and the consumer, allowing the purchase of products according to their needs and health conditions. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the labeling of dairy products marketed in the city of São Luís according to RDC nº 429 and IN nº 75, both published in the year 2020. 05 brands of cream cheese and 05 brands of yogurt were evaluated, sold in supermarkets, and the results were tabulated in Microsoft Excel software. Of the 10 products analyzed, all labels showed some type of non-compliance, however, for yogurt brands, more non-compliant items were observed when compared to curd brands. In the individual comparison of each item, the customer service category was the only one that obtained 100% compliance for both products. Therefore, it is necessary to have stricter control on the part of the competent bodies and the commitment of the food industry to provide veracity in relation to the declared information, with the purpose of safeguarding the health of the consumer, as well as educational actions on labeling, and carrying out of more studies with the aim of contributing to the standardization of dairy product labels in line with current legislation
