Abstract: Understanding soil water infiltration rates is essential for implementing soil conservation practices and planning appropriate ways to use irrigation and drainage systems. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate water infiltration in a Dystrophic Yellow Latosol, using the ring method, at the Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia, Capanema Campus. The methodology consisted of installing rings in the soil and measuring them over time, using the ring infiltrometer method to determine water infiltration into the soil, a fundamental technique to assist in agriculture, water management and prevention of soil erosion. The results indicated a high infiltration rate, an unusual characteristic for clayey soils, attributed to the presence of natural vegetation cover, which protects the soil and promotes greater infiltration. An inverse relationship was observed between the infiltration rate and the accumulated amount of water: the rate decreased over time, while the accumulated amount increased. Natural vegetation cover has been identified as a key factor in regulating hydrological processes, highlighting the importance of management practices that preserve vegetation.
