AUTOMEDICAÇÃO E USO RACIONAL DE MEDICAMENTOS: A importância do farmacêutico na automedicação e promoção do uso racional de medicamentos

• Abstract: Medicines are substances that have assured safety, efficacy and quality for the treatment of numerous diseases, they are fundamental parts in the care of the population's health. Self-medication is the choice of a medication for the purpose of treating symptoms and illnesses without medical or pharmaceutical supervision. In the irrational use of medicines, the medicine is treated without any technical criteria, where there is no control or information provided by trained professionals. This study was prepared through a systematic bibliographic review of articles published on data platforms such as: VHL - Virtual Health Library, Scielo, Pubmed, Google Scholar, Resolutions, Ordinances and Articles published by ANVISA - Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, reviewed from 2023 to 2024. The objective of the present study is to explain what medicine, self-medication and irrational use of medicines are, demonstrate the importance of the pharmacist in reducing them, describe what harm these practices can bring to health and determine mechanisms that can be used to possibly reduce these problems.
