Abstract: Considering the rapid advance of information and communication technologies translated into educational demands related to flexible actions and transversal approaches, as a result of a documentary investigation using the steps of conceptual cartography as an analysis technique, an academic document has been generated that brings together the eight categories related to: notion, categorization, characterization, differentiation, classification, linking, methodology and linking on the socio-emotional competencies that are important in the educational field, since various studies highlight their influence on the comprehensive training of students; Thus, within the relevant evidence, the varied interpretations that can be found on the concept of competencies in the literature are described based on the multiple semantic meanings of the construct, not being exempt from this problem the characterization and categorization of the analyzed competencies that transcend the Due to the multiplicity of terms, this type of competence has also been linked to two relevant theories: emotional intelligence and the theory of multiple intelligences; Likewise, regarding the methodology to develop them, strategies related to: entrepreneurial learning are suggested; simulation; modeling; online games; community projects; learning circles and experiential learning; The latter is briefly exemplified in the last category analyzed; highlights that the investigated construct complements the disciplinary competencies and contributes significantly to comprehensive training, as it includes affective, social and emotional aspects of those involved in the educational processes, establishing that this type of competencies can be developed and improved depending on the context in which they are required.
