Abstract: Aging is affected by physiological and mental changes, as well as chronic illnesses, including anxiety and depression, which impact up to 52% of the elderly population. Poor sleep quality, present in about 50% of older adults, is associated with increased depressive scores and can be exacerbated by factors such as hospitalization and healthcare interventions, potentially compromising both physical and mental health. This study aims to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the relationship between anxiety, depression, and sleep quality in the elderly, using an integrative literature review. A total of 183 articles were selected, of which 8 were analyzed in depth. The results revealed a diverse sample, with a predominance of Brazilian and international studies. The research shows a strong relationship between sleep disturbances and psychological conditions, with the prevalence of sleep problems exceeding 50% among older adults. Factors such as insomnia and sleep apnea are common, and the use of sleep medications can also alter sleep patterns. The study highlights the need for further research, particularly in hospital settings, and the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to improve sleep quality in older adults. Alternative therapies and lifestyle modifications, such as regular physical exercise and integrative practices, are suggested as effective methods to mitigate anxiety and depression, promoting better sleep quality and overall health.
