Abstract: The research aims to compare two works that narrate, in different formats, the life of Carlos Marighella. One of them is the book-report Marighella: the guerrilla who set the world on fire, written by journalist Mário Magalhães and published in 2012, which reconstructs the trajectory of the revolutionary militant of the Brazilian Communist Party and founder of Ação Libertadora Nacional, the largest armed opposition group to the Dictatorship. The other work, adapted from the report book, is the film Marighella (2019), directed by Wagner Moura. It is a feature film that, like the written work, intends to narrate the character's life. The report book is an expansion of journalistic coverage (LIMA, 2009), while a film adaptation is the process through which a work has its constituent elements transposed into a broad film narrative (SILVA, 2009). The aim is to understand the characteristics maintained or changed in the film adaptation, especially with regard to three aspects: protagonist, time and space. It is also intended to investigate the mechanisms of cinematographic adaptation, that is, how a narrative written with words is transformed into a narrative made with images.
