O principal objetivo deste trabalho

é oferecer uma nova possibilidade de análise

do monólogo interior de Addie Bundren,

personagem central de Enquanto agonizo,

romance de William Faulkner publicado em

1930. Sem deixar de levar em conta o imperativo

do diálogo com a tradição, busca-se amparo

no pensamento filosófico de Jacques Derrida,

sobretudo naquelas ideias apresentadas n’A

farmácia de Platão (2005) a respeito do quaseconceito

de pharmakón. Acredita-se que a

matriarca da família Bundren – duplamente viva

e morta, audível e inaudível, presente e ausente

– transmuta-se ao longo da narrativa em uma

linguagem que lhe serve tanto de veneno como

de remédio e, ao fazê-lo, passa a residir no

reino do indecidível.

Abstract:
The main objective of this work

is to offer a new possibility of analysis of the

interior monologue of Addie Bundren, central

character of William Faulkner’s 1930s novel As

I lay dying. Although the necessity of dialoguing

with the tradition is taken into consideration,

a support in Jacques Derrida’s philosophical

thinking is here sought, especially those ideas

presented in Plato’s pharmacy (2005) regarding

the quasi-concept of pharmakón. It is believed

that the matriarch of the Bundren family – doubly

alive and dead, audible and inaudible, present

and absent – transforms herself throughout the

narrative into a language that serves as both

poison and remedy and, in doing so, starts to

dwell in the realm of the undecidable.
