ACOLHIMENTO DE REFUGIADOS: UM RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA
O site Americano “helprefugees.org” define refugiados como “A refugee is someone who, due to a well-founded fear of persecution, war or violence, has been forced to flee their home country”. Ou seja, alguém que devido a uma perseguição, guerra ou violência, foi forçado a fugir de seu país de origem. Enquanto nos Estados Unidos, grupos religiosos, comunidades e até mesmo Universidades de renome se preocupam com o futuro dos refugiados, como é o caso da Mercyhurst University, universidade que mantém o projeto “Refugeernoon” ou traduzindo para o português “Tarde Com os Refugiados”. Outros países acabam não dando tanta importância para esse grupo de pessoas. E infelizmente essa é uma realidade no Brasil.
Objetivos: Relatar a experiência de um estudante-atleta brasileiro em participar de um projeto de acolhimento de refugiados nos Estados Unidos.
Conclusões ou Recomendações: A partir dessa exitosa experiência, conclui-se que projetos extensionistas como esse, devem ser incentivados pelas instituições de ensino em parceria com inciativas públicas e privadas, contribuindo assim para uma sociedade mais justa, humana e igualitária.

Abstract:
The American website “helprefugees.org” defines refugees as: “A refugee is someone who, due to a well-founded fear of persecution, war or violence, has been forced to flee their home country”. In other words, someone who, due to persecution, war or violence, has been forced to flee their home country. While in the United States, religious groups, communities and even renowned Universities are concerned about the future of refugees, as is the case of Mercyhurst University, a university that maintains the "Refugeernoon" project. Other countries end up not giving a lot of importance to this group of people. And unfortunately, this is a reality in Brazil.
Objectives: To describe the experience of a Brazilian student-athlete participating in a project to support refugees in the United States.
Conclusions or Recommendations: Based on this successful experience, it is concluded that extension projects like this one should be encouraged by educational institutions in partnership with public and private initiatives, thus contributing to a more just, humane and egalitarian society.
