A UTILIZAÇÃO DA ACUPUNTURA NO MANEJO DA DOR OROFACIAL E DA ATM
O emprego da acupuntura na Odontologia é de grande valia nos tratamentos da dor facial crônica e miofascial, incluindo aquelas com comprometimento da articulação temporomandibular (ATM), por ter efeitos positivos para o alívio da dor, como o miorrelaxamento, pode apresentar-se como terapia alternativa, integrativa e complementar. Dessa forma, o objetivo do estudo foi analisar através de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, a aplicabilidade da acupuntura no manejo da Disfunções Temporomandibulares (DTM). Para isso, foi realizada uma busca, durante o mês de junho de 2021, nas bases de dados do MEDLINE, Scielo, Pubmed e Science Direct, utilizando os descritores “Acupuntura”, “Odontologia” e “Dor facial”. A sintetização da revisão ocorreu a partir da análise detalhada dos trabalhos e na construção da pergunta norteadora: “A acupuntura pode ser medida terapêutica para DTM?”. Um total de 17 artigos, entre 2016 a 2021, regidos em língua portuguesa, espanhola, inglesa e alemã, compuseram a amostra. Foram excluídos os artigos duplicados, estudos indisponíveis na íntegra, estudos com pessoas menos de 18 anos e aqueles que não estavam de acordo com a temática. Foram inclusos estudos randomizados, meta-análises, estudos de casos e revisões de literatura. Como resultados, obteve-se que a acupuntura, por ter efeitos anti-inflamatórios, ansiolíticos, miorrelaxantes e ativadores da função imunológica, pode apresentar-se como terapia alternativa, integrativa e complementar para DTM, demonstrando uma considerável satisfação ao tratamento e diminuição nos sintomas relacionados à dor. No entanto, apesar de ser uma técnica milenar, são poucos os estudos que relacionam a acupuntura ao manejo da dor em pacientes acometidos com DTM, por isso são necessários mais estudos para analisar efetivamente a aplicação da acupuntura como terapia para essa patologia.

Abstract:
The use of acupuncture in Dentistry is of great value in the treatment of chronic and myofascial facial pain, including those with impairment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), as it has positive effects for pain relief, such as myorelaxation, it can be presented as a therapy alternative, integrative and complementary. Thus, the aim of the study was to analyze, through an integrative literature review, the applicability of acupuncture in the management of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). For this, a search was performed, during the month of June 2021, in the MEDLINE, Scielo, Pubmed and Science Direct databases, using the descriptors “Acupuncture”, “Dentistry” and “Facial pain”. The review was synthesized from the detailed analysis of the studies and the construction of the guiding question: “Can acupuncture be a therapeutic measure for TMD?”. A total of 17 articles, between 2016 and 2021, in Portuguese, Spanish, English and German, composed the sample. Duplicate articles, studies unavailable in their entirety, studies with people under 18 years of age and those that did not agree with the theme were excluded. Randomized studies, meta-analyses, case studies and literature reviews were included. As a result, it was found that acupuncture, for having anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, myorelaxant and immune function activator effects, can present itself as an alternative, integrative and complementary therapy for TMD, demonstrating considerable satisfaction with the treatment and reduction in symptoms related to pain. However, despite being an ancient technique, there are few studies that relate acupuncture to pain management in patients with TMD, so more studies are needed to effectively analyze the application of acupuncture as a therapy for this pathology.
