A SÍNDROME METABÓLICA NO CONTEXTO DA ODONTOGERIATRIA
Na literatura científica, observa-se uma relação importante entre as
condições bucais e a síndrome metabólica. Deste modo, o presente trabalho objetivou realizar uma revisão sistemática da literatura sobre a saúde bucal e a síndrome metabólica em idosos. A revisão foi realizada em artigos publicados nas bases de dados online Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) e PubMed. Os descritores utilizados foram “saúde do idoso AND saúde bucal AND síndrome
metabólica” na BVS e “oral health AND elderly AND metabolic syndrome” na PubMed. Os artigos foram selecionados através do título e do resumo por dois avaliadores para análise e inclusão no estudo. Após a análise, 12 estudos foram incluídos por trazerem, simultaneamente, informações relativas à saúde bucal e síndrome metabólica em indivíduos idosos. No presente trabalho, foi possível
observar que tanto a cárie como a periodontite parecem influenciar a síndrome metabólica no contexto inflamatório e são necessários estudos epidemiológicos brasileiros que avaliem a relação entre as doenças bucais e a síndrome metabólica e sua influência no envelhecimento saudável.

Abstract:
In the scientific literature, there is an important relationship between
oral conditions and metabolic syndrome. Thus, this study aimed to conduct a systematic review of the literature on oral health and metabolic syndrome in the elderly. The review was performed on articles published in the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) and PubMed online databases. The descriptors used were “saúde do idoso AND saúde bucal AND síndrome metabólica” in the BVS and
“oral health AND elderly AND metabolic syndrome” in PubMed. The works were selected through the title and abstract by two evaluators for analysis and inclusion in the study. After the analysis, 12 works were included for simultaneously bringing information related to oral health and metabolic syndrome in elderly.
