A REPRESENTAÇÃO DAS FAVELAS NO MAPEAMENTO E INFORMAÇÃO DO TURISMO NO RIO DE JANEIRO
Para Antoine Picon “mapear uma
cidade vai além de fazer uma representação da
mesma, é dar-lhe sentido” (2010:191). Uma vez
que a ausência das favelas nos mapas oficias
é questionada também no seu sentido social
(MARICATO,2013) o presente trabalho discute
os significados da exclusão nos sistemas de
informação, nas representações cartográficas
oficiais da cidade e sua relação com a dificuldade
de acesso aos direitos urbanísticos. Assim,
procura-se investigar os dados produzidos pelo
Instituto Pereira Passos (centro de referência
de dados sobre o Rio) bem como iniciativas
populares de representação e inclusão das
favelas nos mapas da cidade. O artigo também
buscou estabelecer uma interface entre a
representação das favelas nos mapas urbanos
e o turismo na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, campo
pouco explorado pelas áreas de estudo tanto
do turismo quanto do urbanismo. Assim, a
subjetividade das representações da cidade
bem como os significados sociais de “estar no
mapa” são discutidos aqui através de mapas
e guias turísticos da cidade do Rio de Janeiro
e a interpretação de seu conteúdo no que
diz respeito ao espaço das favelas, porções
expressivas da cidade e que têm sido objeto de
interesse de turistas de todo o mundo (FreireMedeiros, 2009). Este trabalho visa contribuir
para a discussão em torno da importância e
dos significados da visibilidade e representação
das favelas nos mapas da cidade e seu sentido
social.

Abstract:
For Antoine Picon “map a city
goes beyond making a representation therefor,
to give it meaning” (2010:. 191) Once that
the absence of slums in official maps is also
questioned in its social sense (Maricato,
2013) this paper discusses the meaning of the
exclusion in the information systems, the official
cartographical representations of the city and its
relation to the difficulty of access to urban rights.
Thus, we try to investigate the data produced
by Pereira Passos Intitution (Information on the
city department) and also by popular initiatives
about digital inclusion and representation are
presented. The article also sought to establish
an interface between the representation of
slums in urban maps and tourism in the city of Rio de Janeiro, field not so explored by the study areas both tourism as urbanism.
Thus, the subjectivity of city representation as well as the social meanings of “being
on the map,” are discussed here through the maps and tour guides of the city of Rio
de Janeiro and the interpretation of its content with regard to the space of the favelas,
significant portions of the city and have been the subject of interest of tourists from
around the world (Freire-Medeiros, 2009). Investigating how the slums are represented
by the official promotion agency of the city’s tourism, recent projects of the City Hall
and the popular initiatives mapping and information, this work aims to contribute to the
discussion about the importance and meaning of visibility and representation of favelas
the maps of the city and its social meaning
