Abstract: This article aims to analyze the relationship between social networks and happiness, considering the influence of the development of technological devices from a critical perspective. The study proposes a reflection on the possible impacts of social networks on social life as well as on mental health through a literature review aimed at building a broad perception of the phenomenon of the virtual world in society as a modifier of social relations through cultural transformations over time. It seeks to analyze elements relevant to understanding this research, such as examining, from some historical perspectives, the understanding of happiness in each era, arriving at postmodern society which, in turn, perceives happiness from a market perspective fostered by mass communication. From this perspective, the article addresses concepts that form the basis for understanding the relationship between social networks and happiness, such as individualism, authenticity, well-being, aesthetic values such as self-image, and impacts on mental health from maladaptive use such as anxiety and depression.
