Abstract: The subject of this monograph is human rights training in entry courses for the security forces, which are the main institutions with police functions in Portugal. The aim is to assess the adequacy of initial training in the subject of human rights in order to prevent manifestations of discrimination by professionals in the security forces when carrying out their legally assigned duties. The functional nature of the security forces in Portugal in guaranteeing human rights, and the relevance and topicality of this issue, motivated the choice of the subject of the work. The methodology adopted is qualitative in nature. Firstly, bibliographical and documentary research was carried out in the area of human rights education in the police, and then the contents of the curricular units specifically geared towards teaching human rights, which are included in the curricula of the initial training courses for security force professionals, were analysed. It can therefore be concluded that the initial training given in the entry courses for the various professional categories of the security forces is largely adequate, but some aspects for improvement have been identified, particularly in terms of the content taught and the number of teaching hours.
