A natalidade real, intencional e desejada e a crise demográfica em Portugal
O contínuo decréscimo da taxa de natalidade que tem ocorrido em Portugal ao longo das últimas décadas, tal como em muitos outros países, tende muitas vezes a ser considerado uma resultante de mudanças comportamentais que refletem uma nova hierarquia de valores, na busca de maior realização pessoal. Este estudo procura precisamente debater esta hipótese, questionando se o decréscimo da natalidade na sociedade portuguesa resulta de preferências e opções pessoais que traduzem mudanças comportamentais face à natalidade. Esta é a questão de partida para esta investigação suportada por uma pesquisa quantitativa baseada num questionário anónimo, aplicado a indivíduos residentes em Portugal com mais de 20 anos de idade. Os resultados alcançados permitiram identificar uma relevante discrepância entre a natalidade real e a natalidade desejada dos portugueses, o que vem questionar alguns dos pressupostos que têm justificado a ausência de medidas de política significativas, dirigidas a alterar as tendências que caracterizam a evolução recente do saldo natural português.

Abstract:
The continuous decrease in the birth rate that has occurred in Portugal over the last decades, as well as in many coutries, tends to be considered a result of behavioral changes that reflect a new hierarchy of values in the search for personal fulfillment. This study seeks precisely to discuss this hypothesis, questioning whether the decrease in birth rates in Portuguese society results from personal preferences and choices that explain natality behavioral changes. This is the starting point for this investigation supported by a quantitative research based on the application of an anonymous questionnaire, which was applied to individuals residing in Portugal over 20 years of age. The results allowed us to identify a relevant discrepancy between the real birth rate and the desired birth rate of the Portuguese, which questions some of the assumptions that have justified the absence of significant policy measures, aimed at changing the current trends that characterize the recent evolution of the Portuguese natural balance.
