A INVISIBILIDADE DO SNUC NA COBERTURA JORNALÍSTICA SOBRE CONSERVAÇÃO DA BIODIVERSIDADE
O Brasil, país líder em megadiversidade biológica, vinha assumido compromissos nacionais e internacionais visando à proteção desse patrimônio, com ênfase na criação de áreas protegidas. O Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação da Natureza (SNUC) representa o principal arcabouço legal com esse objetivo. Considerando que os meios de comunicação desempenham um papel fundamental na sensibilização da sociedade sobre essa temática, este capítulo buscou refletir sobre como a agenda da conservação da biodiversidade vinha se expressando na cobertura jornalística e, nesse contexto, quais eram os principais enfoques sobre a gestão de áreas protegidas. A metodologia adotada envolveu pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e mapeamento de notícias no jornal O Globo, em 2012, ano de realização da Rio+20. Os resultados indicaram que essa agenda esteve presente no noticiário analisado, embora as abordagens, em geral, fossem pouco contextualizadas e aprofundadas. E mesmo que os interlocutores governamentais representassem as principais fontes e fossem recorrentes as notícias sobre as unidades de conservação, o SNUC não foi mencionado em nenhuma das matérias mapeadas. Essa questão sinaliza com diversos desafios para toda a sociedade e, principalmente, para a gestão pública, a academia e a própria mídia.

Abstract:
Brazil, a leading country in biological megadiversity, had assumed national and international commitments to protect this nature, with emphasis on the creation of protected areas. The SNUC (National System of Protected Areas) represents the main legal framework for this purpose. Considering that the media plays a fundamental role in raising society's awareness of this issue, this chapter sought to reflect on how the biodiversity conservation agenda had been expressed in journalistic coverage and, in this context, what were the main approaches to the management of protected areas. The methodology adopted involved bibliographic and documentary research and news mapping in the newspaper O Globo, in 2012, the year of the Rio+20. The results indicated that this agenda was present in the analyzed news, although the approaches, in general, were little contextualized. And even though the government voices represented the main sources and the news about the protected areas was recurrent, the SNUC was not mentioned in any of the mapped articles. This question signals with several challenges for the whole society and, mainly, for the public administration, the academy and the media.
