Abstract: The global pandemic caused by COVID-19 has brought to light a series of challenges, among which the significant impact on the population's mental health stands out. In this context, the fundamental objective of this study was to carry out a comprehensive investigation into how the pandemic has affected people's mental health and how this impact has resulted in an alarming increase in the use of psychotropic drugs. The study adopted a deductive methodological approach, which is characterized by starting from a general understanding of the situation to subsequently explore the particularities of the problem. The purpose of this approach was to provide a solid context and a solid basis for analyzing the impact of the pandemic and its relationship to the use of psychotropic drugs. Additionally, a qualitative approach was incorporated, which proved crucial to capturing the experiences, perceptions and nuances of how COVID-19 affected people's lives at an individual and collective level. The research sought not only quantitative data, but also deeper explanations and understandings of the psychological effects of the pandemic. The information collected was based on secondary sources, such as studies and bibliographical research, which provided a solid base of knowledge on the topic. The analysis and discussion of the data collected throughout the study allowed substantial conclusions to be drawn. This study identified and highlighted the various factors that contributed to the impact of the pandemic on the mental health of the population. In particular, the correlation between the psychological challenges faced and the significant increase in the consumption of psychotropic drugs as a way of dealing with stress and anxiety was analyzed. The study provided a deeper understanding of the phenomenon and can provide valuable information for the development of public health strategies and policies aimed at promoting mental health in times of crises like the one we are currently experiencing.
