Abstract: The research seeks to understand whether there was a relationship between the impacts caused by the health crisis in a possible increase in the levels of default by users in the sanitation and water supply sector - SANEP, in the city of Pelotas/RS. More specifically, the research was dedicated to surveying SANEP defaults in the periods before, during and after the pandemic and evaluating the relationship between these periods, in addition to contextualizing this data with the benefits offered by governments and with the policies adopted by the agency during the period. pandemic period. The method used is essentially qualitative, presenting financial reports and semi-structured interviews with the Head of the Service and Collection Division (DAC) of SANEP. The main results in relation to the possibility of default by SANEP are negative. In this period, the financial reports did not register a significant increase in delinquencies. Some possible justifications are federal public policies, such as emergency aid and the emergency program to maintain employment and income, and measures adopted by the SANEP autarchy, which decided not to cut water due to default in the city of Pelotas, in period from March 2020 to December 2021, in an attempt to mitigate the consequences caused by the health crisis.
