Abstract: Head and neck anatomy is one of the most important disciplines during dentistry undergraduate studies. One of the main pillars in the practice of this discipline is to have a practical and dynamic teaching method. Therefore, it is essential to apply different methodologies, focusing on active practice, with the aim of improving students' learning. In this way, the use of facial paintings fits as one of these practical teaching methods, especially when it comes to learning the muscular anatomical aspects of the facial mimicry region. The objective of this study is to discuss how the use of facial paintings can enhance theoretical and practical anatomical knowledge of facial mimicry muscles. This is an experience report of a tutoring activity that took place in the anatomy laboratory of Luciano Feijão College, in the municipality of Sobral-CE. Students were guided to analyze all origins, insertions, and functions of facial mimicry muscles in order to ensure the completion of the activity. The activity was conducted and organized through drawing lots, where each student was assigned to paint a facial mimicry muscle and report its origin, function, and insertion. The application of this practice encouraged students to take on the role of protagonists in learning, sparking the interest of other students in delving deeper into the knowledge of all facial mimicry muscles, along with their function, origin, and insertion. Furthermore, it provided participants with self- confidence in identifying each anatomical region studied for practice. The use of facial paintings becomes an ally as a tool in the elaboration of practical anatomy classes of the head and neck, besides encouraging students to study and participate in the dynamics of the class, they assist in enhancing the teaching and learning process of the Head and Neck Anatomy discipline in the Dentistry course.
