A IMPORTÂNCIA DA LAVAGEM DAS MÃOS PARA O CONTROLE DA INFECÇÃO HOSPITALAR: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA
A higienização das mãos constitui-se, isoladamente, a ação mais importante para a prevenção e controle das infecções hospitalares. Objetivou-se, com este artigo, analisar as evidências científicas sobre o conhecimento e a prática da técnica da lavagem das mãos pela equipe de enfermagem para o controle de infecção. Definiu-se a seguinte questão norteadora: Como as pesquisas científicas em relação à lavagem das mãos pela equipe de enfermagem poderão contribuir para evitar a transmissão de infecções? Realizou-se uma Revisão Integrativa de Literatura nas bases de dados LILACS (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde), SciELO (Scientific Electronic library Online) e BDENF (Base de Dados da Enfermagem), utilizando os descritores enfermagem, infecção hospitalar e lavagem das mãos, perfazendo uma amostra de dezessete artigos completos publicados entre 2005 e 2014. Na análise de dados emergiram três categorias, quais sejam: 1. Visão geral sobre a importância da higienização das mãos; 2. Desconhecimento da técnica; e 3. Importância das práticas lúdicas. Em complemento à última categoria de análise, a pesquisa trouxe uma contribuição prática através da implantação de um instrumento lúdico denominado “lavômetro”, sendo uma forma de incentivo à prática de lavagem das mãos e de combate à proliferação da infecção hospitalar. Entende-se que, apesar da evolução constante, das mudanças indispensáveis e da introdução de novas tecnologias, essa prática continua sendo uma medida primária no controle da disseminação de micro-organismos.

Abstract:
Hand hygiene alone constitutes the most important action for the prevention and control of nosocomial infections. The objective of this article is to examine the scientific evidences on the knowledge and practice of the hand washing technique by the nursing team for infection control. The following guiding question was defined: How can scientific research in relation to hand washing by the nursing team contribute to prevent disease transmission? An Integrative Literature Review was carried out in the LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and BDENF (Nursing Database), using the descriptors nursing, hospital infection and hand washing, totalizing seventeen complete articles published between 2005 and 2014. In the data analysis, three categories emerged, namely: 1. Overview of the importance of hand hygiene 2. Ignorance of the technique; and 3. Importance of playful practices. In addition to the last category of analysis, the research made a practical contribution by the implementation of a playful instrument called “lavômetro”, being a way of encouraging the practice of hand washing and combating the proliferation of hospital infection. It is understood that, despite constant evolution, indispensable changes and the introduction of new technologies, this practice remains a primary measure in controlling the spread of microorganisms.
