A Importância da Acupuntura no Tratamento da Dor Oncológica

• Abstract: Introduction: Cancer pain is a recurrent symptom in cancer patients and is defined as simultaneous sensations of acute and chronic pain of different levels of intensity, and is associated with the spread of tumor cells and therapeutic interventions adopted for the control and treatment of the disease. Objective: To analyze and highlight the importance of acupuncture in the management of cancer pain, whether for the relief of symptoms arising from the disease or for its treatment. Method and materials: This was characterized by being a qualitative and descriptive bibliographic review. The databases used to conduct this research were SciELO, BVS (Virtual Health Library) and MEDLINE/PubMed. Results: A reduction in the intensity of the pain experience and/or a decrease in the consumption of analgesics in cancer patients was evidenced. Conclusion: Acupuncture is recommended as a safe and effective intervention to improve symptoms in cancer patients. Benefits in reducing pain are noted, however more research is needed to assess its impact in the short and long term.
