Abstract: Vitiligo is a chronic disease that affects the skin, causing a loss of pigmentation in specific areas of the body, resulting in white or light spots. It can be classified into two types: segmental or unilateral, which manifests itself on one part of the body, and non-segmental or bilateral, which is the most common type and manifests itself on both sides of the body. This condition occurs due to a decrease or absence of melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. The exact causes of vitiligo are not yet fully understood, but it is believed that autoimmune factors are involved, where the immune system attacks the melanocytes. In addition, emotional trauma and genetic predisposition can act as triggers or aggravate the disease, which is why psychological counseling is suggested, which can have a very positive effect on treatment results. The aim of the study is to analyze whether the extract of the plant Brosimum gaudichaudii (mama-cadela), which belongs to the Moraceae family, is really effective in treating vitiligo. This plant contains substances called furanocoumarins (mainly psoralen and bergapten), mama cadela are used in photochemotherapy for vitiligo. This treatment works by combining these substances with ultraviolet light to stimulate skin pigmentation. How these compounds act in the body and whether the complete extract of the plant has a better effect than the isolated compounds for this, they used a method of combining them.
