Abstract: Teachers face numerous challenges when trying to understand students' emotions through screens, what this impacts on the learning process and the most appropriate strategies that should be adopted based on these emotions. To overcome these challenges, it was necessary to develop an intelligent system capable of detecting and recognizing students' emotions during remote classes, aiming to assist teachers in the teaching-learning process, in reflecting on the strategies adopted and in the methodological replanning of classes. The literature review presents theories about emotions, their impact on learning and the use of artificial intelligence for emotional detection. The developed and validated system uses Python-based libraries and frameworks, such as OpenCV, NumPy and Pandas, and the Fear 2 algorithm to recognize emotions. The Tensor Flow framework was also used to integrate the algorithms and simplify the development of the system. To validate the performance of the intelligent system, a questionnaire was developed and administered to 42 teachers who work in remote teaching, the results of which revealed that they recognize the importance of emotions in teaching and consider the emotion detection system relevant and of great importance for a more complete and effective education.
