A ATUAÇÃO DA COMISSÃO SANITÁRIA DE CAMPINAS-SP: AÇÕES DE POLÍCIA SANITÁRIA NO PERÍODO REPUBLICANO
Através de uma revisão bibliográfica e documental, este artigo trata das ações preventivas, políticas e sociais adotadas em Campinas-SP pelo poder público para o campo da saúde, em finais do século XIX e início do XX. Este período é marcado por sucessivas epidemias de febre amarela na cidade. Tais ações embasaram-se no aparato legislativo que tomava corpo nos anos iniciais da República. Na área da saúde, este aparato, ficou primordialmente a cargo do Serviço Sanitário do Estado. Em Campinas, a febre amarela ‘exigiu’ do Serviço Sanitário um meio atuante, fazendo com que este órgão instituísse a Comissão Sanitária no ano de 1896. Esta ‘extensão’ do Serviço Sanitário na cidade, além do combate através de ações práticas para conter os constantes surtos de febre amarela, também foi responsável pelo desenvolvimento das obras de saneamento e a aplicação da polícia sanitária. A partir de fontes primárias, principalmente de origem administrativa da Comissão, compõe-se um cenário deste marcante período na história da “Princesa D’Oeste”.

Abstract:
Through a bibliographical and documentary review, this article deals with preventive measures, social policies and adopted in Campinas-SP by the government to the health sector in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This period is marked by successive epidemics of yellow fever in the city. Such actions up they have bases in the legislative apparatus that took body in the early years of the Republic. In health, this apparatus, it was primarily the responsibility of the State Sanitary Service. In Campinas, yellow fever 'demanded' the Health Service an active medium, making this body instituted the Sanitary Commission in the year 1896. This 'extension' of the Health Service in the city, in addition to fighting through practical actions to curb constant outbreaks of yellow fever, was also responsible for the development of sanitation works and the application of animal health. From primary sources, mainly administrative origin of the Commission, made up a scenario of this remarkable period in the history of "Princess D'Oeste".
