Abstract: The study conducted a literature review on Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and the role of the pharmacist in managing this condition. NAS occurs when newborns are exposed to psychoactive substances during gestation, resulting in withdrawal symptoms after birth. The review highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary care, including physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and pharmacists, to ensure comprehensive care for both mothers and newborns. The research identified pharmacological interventions with better outcomes and emphasized non-pharmacological interventions as important complements to treatment. Prevention and prenatal care for pregnant women who use drugs were pointed out as essential to reduce the risks associated with NAS. The study concluded that the role of the pharmacist is prominent in NAS management, contributing to the safety and efficacy of treatment, as well as promoting maternal and child health.
