Abstract: Introduction: Population aging is a growing phenomenon that poses significant challenges to public health and the quality of life of older adults. Physical, functional, and psychosocial changes associated with aging can compromise autonomy and independence, making it essential to implement physiotherapeutic interventions that promote healthy aging. Theoretical framework: Literature shows that geriatric physiotherapy, through resistance exercises, stretching, balance training, respiratory physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and group activities, contributes to improved muscle strength, mobility, balance, and functional capacity. Additionally, these interventions positively affect emotional well-being, socialization, and perceived quality of life, highlighting the need for individualized, patient-centered strategies. Methodology: This study consisted of a narrative literature review conducted in national and international databases such as SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Articles published between 2015 and 2025 were selected using descriptors including “geriatric physiotherapy,” “quality of life,” “elderly,” “active aging,” and “physiotherapy interventions.” Inclusion criteria encompassed original studies, integrative reviews, and clinical guidelines relevant to the topic, while incomplete or duplicate studies were excluded. Conclusions: The analysis indicates that geriatric physiotherapy plays a crucial role in promoting quality of life, acting preventively, therapeutically, and psychosocially. Individualized and multidimensional interventions enhance functional autonomy, reduce the risk of falls, improve mobility, and support emotional well-being and social engagement. Therefore, physiotherapy is an indispensable resource for active and healthy aging, emphasizing the importance of continuous, patient-specific programs.
