• Abstract: The accelerated development and widespread adoption of information and communication technologies (ICT) have transformed various sectors, including education. In Ecuador, their integration into the educational system is a priority, as evidenced by initiatives such as the Educar Ecuador platform, aimed at facilitating learning and digital interaction. However, there remains a need to assess the actual impact of ICT on the academic performance of secondary school students, This study analyzes the influence of the use of ICT on the academic performance of adolescents and young people in secondary institutions. It presents a characterization of the current state of technological integration in the Ecuadorian educational system, examines students' usage patterns and perceptions, and evaluates the positive and negative effects that ICT can have on learning processes. The increasing availability of digital devices in the homes of Calderón families has modified educational dynamics. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC, 2018), 24.5% of households had desktop computers, 24.2% had laptops, and 11.2% had both types of devices (Stinson, 2022), which suggests a favorable environment for the use of digital resources in the school setting.
