BETWEEN THE VISIBLE AND THE HIDDEN: HEALTH PROMOTION FOR THE TRANSGENDER POPULATION AND THE CHALLENGES OF THE HEALTHCARE TEAM
INTRODUCTION: The aim was to report on the experience of a group of health professionals who, in the course of their routine, encountered the challenge of using pronouns correctly for transgender people. METHODOLOGY: This is a descriptive study, based on the experiences of health professionals who work in direct patient care. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The feedback provided by the professionals who took part in the activity was very positive, with acceptance and appreciation of the knowledge built, with deep reflections identified through the speeches. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The importance of effective communication,
based on respect for gender identity, the desire for what the person wants to be called, detaching oneself from assumptions or dogmas preceded by veiled prejudices, ensuring health promotion with a view to significantly improving the health of the transgender population.
