Abstract: The increase in the elderly population in Brazil and worldwide has been demonstrated by a 57% rise in people aged 65 or older between the 2010 and 2022 censuses (IBGE, 2023). This poses significant challenges to health systems, requiring strategies that promote active aging. Advancing age is associated with cognitive and physical decline, as well as an increased risk of functional dependence. Physiotherapy, through exercise-based interventions, emerges as a key tool in maintaining functionality, autonomy, and quality of life in older adults. Objective: To analyze how physiotherapy can promote active aging using studies with control groups. Methodology: A literature review was conducted using the SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases, focusing on articles published between 2015 and 2025. The search using specific descriptors yielded a total of 15,613 articles. Results: Seven scientific articles were selected after applying eligibility, selection, and exclusion criteria. Conclusion: Structured exercise programs proved to be highly effective in promoting active and healthy aging, showing significant improvements in strength, balance, and muscular endurance, as well as reducing pain and the risk of falls.
