Abstract: This study proposes a critical analysis of human behavior on social media through the lens of classical and contemporary psychoanalysis, with connections to Jungian analytical psychology and existential phenomenology. The research investigates how the unconscious both individual and collective manifests in digital interactions, revealing the intensification of archetypal patterns and neurotic symptoms in the algorithmic age. Social networks have become privileged spaces for constructing the self, where desires, anxieties, and fantasies are technologically mediated. Jungian archetypes such as the hero, the rebel, and the victim reappear in idealized personas. The pursuit of approval, fear of abandonment, and compulsion for visibility shape cultural neuroses, as described by Karen Horney. Drawing on Freud, the study analyzes defense mechanisms like projection and rationalization, intensified in online behavior, while Lacan contributes with concepts of jouissance and digital narcissism: the “like” functions as the gaze of the Other. Klein’s reading highlights the schizoid-paranoid position and symbolic repair attempts, as seen in cancel culture and performative acts of solidarity. From a phenomenological perspective, the fragmentation of the self is accentuated, with the body reduced to an image and the subject unanchored from the present. In summary, social media platforms amplify the unconscious structures of subjectivity, functioning as collective mirrors where myth, desire, and technology intertwine.
