Abstract: In the framework of national and international evaluations, Mexican children at the basic level in Mexico have obtained alarming results in their reading performance, specifically with low levels of understanding of texts. Faced with this problematic situation, it is necessary to make emerging proposals that contribute to its solution in the light of a child better prepared for the future. With a view to contributing to the development of reading skills of basic education students at the primary level of the national context, this research was conducted with the purpose of studying under the perspective of action research, the application and innovation of a teaching material that, while developing expected learning based on competences, enables the formative evaluation of students to increase their levels of understanding in the reading of literary and informative texts.
