Abstract: Dementia can be characterized as a chronic, incurable, and progressive disease. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the trends in theses and dissertations regarding the experiences of medical and nursing professionals in the care of elderly people with dementia and their family caregivers. This is a narrative literature review, in which theses and dissertations were searched on the website of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDBTD). The inclusion criteria for selecting theses and dissertations were that they be studies conducted entirely or partially in Brazil and that they answered the review question. No time frame or filters were stipulated, ensuring the selection of the largest possible number of research studies. Thus, in this narrative literature review, a total of 7 theses and dissertations were included. The research results are presented in two synoptic tables. The first table addresses general aspects of identifying scientific production, while the second synoptic table addresses specific aspects of each selected study, such as the general objective, method used, and a summary of the main results of each thesis and dissertation. In conclusion, it was possible to understand that some experiences may be related to superficial knowledge about dementia, leading to difficulties in identification, confidence in diagnosis, and the use of screening tools.
