Abstract: This article explores the experience of leprosy patients after diagnosis, focusing on treatment actions, social and family challenges, and the importance of coping. Leprosy, a chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae, remains a public health challenge in Brazil, with a high incidence. The research involved semi-structured interviews with patients diagnosed with the disease, exploring their perceptions of treatment and highlighting the obstacles related to medication adherence and its influence on family relationships. Additionally, participants shared their experiences of stigma and social discrimination associated with leprosy. The results emphasize the need for a deeper understanding of the social and emotional implications of the disease. This study contributes to improving patient care and raising awareness in society about the importance of eliminating the stigma surrounding leprosy, promoting a more inclusive and empathetic approach to those affected by the disease.
