Abstract: : The open visit in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has benefits, such as reducing the frequency and duration of delusions, reducing anxiety and depression in the patient and family, offering the opportunity for the family to be at the patient's side, providing improvements in their clinical condition. However, this practice is not adopted by most ICUs. The challenges of adopting an open visitation policy in the ICU are mainly due to the negative perceptions and attitudes of the team; patient protection; family and cultural consideration, as well as organizational challenges. The lack of a clear and consistent definition of the open visit, therefore, ongoing education among professionals in the ICU, however, is a necessary strategy to support the team in providing care to patients and families. Therefore, this study aimed to: describe the importance of open visits and health education in order to promote the humanization of patients admitted to the ICU. To this end, the narrative literature review of eight articles used as a methodology, with works researched on platforms such as Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) academic Google. Therefore, considering current gaps, it is necessary to develop clear and consistent internal guidelines in hospitals that guarantee the introduction of open ICU visits. It is also concluded that health education aimed at family members during open visits in the ICU can significantly contribute to improving the patient's clinical condition. This, in turn, facilitates the overall care process and promotes humanized assistance, aligned with the principles of the Program
