Abstract: Brazil is one of the largest sugar and alcohol producing countries in the world. It is of utmost importance that a thorough analysis be carried out to carry out a planning according to the estimate of cane production based on the planted area so that the agricultural productivity of that delimited portion can be estimated. In this context, the present work aims to estimate the area planted with sugarcane in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes - RJ using Remote Sensing as an analysis tool. The methodology consisted in the use of LANDSAT-8 Satellite images for the 2017/2018 crop year processed in the free software Georeferenced Information Processing System (SPRING) version 5.5.5. The tools that enabled the culmination of the final result were: digital classification and visual interpretations for the delimitation of the sugarcane planting areas and identification of the areas where it is allowed to burn the sugarcane in its harvest, using for this Spatial Language for Algebraic Geoprocessing (LEGAL) in line with the use of digital elevation models ASTER, SRTM and TOPODATA. The results showed a sugarcane planted area of 25,238.34 hectares in that municipality, among which they have a slope greater than 12% of 742.14 ha (ASTER), 242.29 ha (SRTM) and 3,159.65 ha (TOPODATA). The conclusions pointed to divergences between values raised in the present research project and those calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (CONAB) for the referred crop year.
