Abstract: The process industry plays a vital role in the manufacture of various products, but it also faces challenges arising from waste generation. Turning these by-products into value-added resources is a growing goal to promote economic and environmental sustainability. Composites, known for combining different properties of different materials, are emerging as a promising approach in materials engineering, allowing the obtainment of optimized materials that have the potential to use wastes such as those mentioned above. In this sense, this work aims to evaluate the influence of the incorporation of residues from the production of lactic acid, industrial gypsum, on the compressive strength of a DGEBA/DETA epoxy system. Formulations with 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% residues were produced and tested according to ASTM D695. The results of this work indicated that the addition of gypsum particulates can lead to significant gains in strength and stiffness of epoxy systems when subjected to compression, which implies technological and environmental gains for the composites developed.
